The 6x World Champ got rewarded with the annual honor by World Athletics for his storied 2023 campaign. While one would think Noah Lyles is used to winning, his latest award got him flabbergasted instead.

Noah Lyles never shies away from expressing his unfeigned perspectives on subjects that intrigue him. However, his recent victory has him speechless. A social media post by the mighty Budapest threepeater showcased his emotional paean to the world after he received the honor for his incredible 2023 season. In fact, his post revealed that behind the 26-year-old Track Titan, lies a kid who is realizing his dreams.

Noah Lyles posted a tweet on his official X account after winning the 2023 Athlete of the Year title. He said, “Idk what to say… There is so much I want to say and so much Ik I shouldn’t say. I need time to truly get my feelings together before I start speaking on what happened tonight.” 

The year 2023 was filled with triumphs for Noah Lyles, who signaled his victory numbers after claiming each gold medal at the 2023 World Athletics Championship.

In fact, the image of Lyles holding three fingers up after his third gold medal is one of the most popular images on the internet right now. However, his latest tweet showcased the dreamy kid inside him instead of the 26-year-old conqueror.

 

Extending his humility further, Noah Lyles made another tweet congratulating all the award-winners of 2023. He said, “I will say congratulations to everyone who won tonight! You are all amazing athletes and have done so many great things this season! I will see you all in 2024.” While Noah Lyles has received the greatest annual honor, he now aims for something even bigger: the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Noah Lyles’ golden track and field season

As he sprinted toward the podium finish throughout the season, Lyles’ 2023 World Athletics Championships’ winning spree shined bright. On the tracks of Budapest, he clinched three gold medals, with individual victories in the 100m and 200m and as part of Team USA’s 4x100m relay squad.

While 2023 was a year which yielded golden fruits for Noah Lyles, his final race at the Eugene Diamond League resulted in a silver medal. Compatriot Christian Coleman defeated Lyles in the 100m dash at the Prefontaine Classic by just 0.02 seconds as he matched Lyles’ best time of 9.83s.
