A lot of drama unfolded at the 2024 Millrose Games as a Scottish runner defeated her US competitor on home soil. The intense battle that unfolded on the tracks saw two miles of back-and-forth competition. Eventually, this yielded one of the speediest races for a track that stretched for two long miles.

Representing the United Kingdom, Laura Muir held strong against America’s distance-running express Alicia Monson. Both women poured themselves at the 116th edition of the Millrose Games as they bashed their heads together. While Muir came out victorious, defeating her American counterpart, both of them ended up securing new records on the way.

FloTrack added a new tweet to its official X account with the caption, “Another American record for Alicia Monson! 🇺🇸 Monson logs a new U.S. women’s 2-mile indoor record of 9:09.70, which earned her fourth at Millrose. #MillroseGames.” The previous record was held by America’s St. Pierre who had recorded a time of 9:10.28.

Along with the record revision, her effort yielded her the bronze medal at the Millrose Games event. With this, Alicia Monson now has two American indoor records (3000m and two miles) along with two American outdoor records (5000m and 10,000m) in her bag. On the other hand, the Scottish Distance runner Laura Muir surpassed the European record with her 9:04.84 finish at the Millrose Games.

Had the young Ethiopian runner not started early and violated the rules, she could have created a new facility record at The Armory in NYC. Thus, while she would be careful about this in the future, her 2024 Millrose Games effort being scrapped like that was a very costly lesson. But, she will be ready to challenge her more experienced counterparts and look forward to winning.
