Noah Lyles recently enjoyed a stellar start to the 2024 season at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston. The 6x World Champion successfully defeated his rival and compatriot Fred Kerley in the 60m dash, ending his dominance on shorter tracks. While the Budapest threepeater overcame Kerley, another threepeating compatriot is now waiting to clash with him.

The rivalry that turned sour for Noah Lyles in September 2023

NBC Olympics and Paralympics recently tweeted a new video on X featuring a brief interview clip of Christian Coleman. The interviewer in the video asked Coleman, “We’re all looking forward to the matchup in Albuquerque next week, U.S. Indoor Championships. You and Noah Lyles against the clock. What are your thoughts on that as you come off this race?”

Responding to this, Coleman said, “I’m looking forward to it too.” The interviewer was surprised by the answer and asked the 3x world champ if he had anything else to say. But Coleman said that he was done. This showcased that Coleman believes more in words than actions. After all, he shocked everyone with his actions at the Eugene Diamond League when he defeated Noah Lyles.

The September 2023 defeat was the first and only loss of Noah Lyles that season. Now, the competition has come indoors and the two American speedsters will face each other at the US Indoor Championship.

Which world champion will dominate the indoor territory?

Noah Lyles and Christian Coleman earned their first world championship gold medals at the 2019 WAC in Doha. Both of them excel in their own game on different tracks, as Coleman rules the 100m course while Lyles’ territory lies in the 200m. But, the 60m tracks will be a neutral battleground for both athletes. Interestingly, both Noah Lyles and Christian Coleman recently won a 60m race.
