The John Thomas Terrier Classic was concluded this Saturday at the Track and Tennis Centre at Boston University. Being the official start of the 2024 World Indoor Tour Gold series, the John Thomas Terrier Classic features some of the top runners across the globe. The event comprised 26 men and 34 women who competed at the event.

At the Men’s track and field event at the Terrier Classic, some of the top contenders emerged victorious while breaking national records and hitting qualifying marks at the Olympics event. Along the same lines, women also passed with flying colors shattering previous records at the competition.

Kimberley May betters her track and field record

Kimberley May, the key athlete from the Providence team, showed her prowess on the tracks on Saturday. To share this ecstatic news among her spectators, Citius Mag took it to their Twitter account and posted a picture of her. Giving all the details of the Mile, they penned, “ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Kimberley May of @FriarsXCTrack knocks an astonishing 10 seconds off her mile PB with a 4:27.85 runner-up finish at the BU Terrier Classic. That time lands her at #8 all-time on the NCAA indoor list.” In that run, May also ticked a few more record boxes.

Providence XC Track took to its X to give an account of the accolades May earned during her race. It wrote, “Kimberley May just had herself a day!” It further writes that she set an NCAA Mile lead and a School record in the process. While Kimberley settled with a second position, Anna Camp Bennett clinched the first position at the women’s 1-mile race. Meanwhile, Kimberley is not the only athlete adding a feather of accolade to the cap of achievements of Providence.

Providence rises to prominence on the tracks

While Kimberley shattered the record she made at the U Mass Flagship Invitational in Boston, another prominent athlete, Shannon Flockhart of Providence, made an impressive run at the BU Terrier event. Shannon recorded her best of 4:30.83, which led her to 5th overall position. The fame for Providence comes just days after Kimberley secured an honor for her performance.

On January 17, Kimberley, a Providence College Junior, was named the BIG EAST Track Athlete of the Week. She obtained the honor for her performance in the mile at the UMass Flagship Invitational on January 14 in Boston. Kimberley finished first in the 800-meter event and set a school record with a 2:04.47 time.
