The second Wanda Diamond League meeting of the 2024 season is scheduled for the 27th of April in Shanghai/Suzhou. It will feature the world’s greatest sprinters competing against each other in the 100m dash. Christian Coleman, a 2019 World Champion, will be seen contesting the youngest 100m World Champion, Yohan Blake, in Suzhou.

The men’s 100m race is the prime highlight of the meet as the US star athlete Christian Coleman would be making sure not to lose his previous title of the 100m Wanda Diamond League this year. Since Coleman attained popularity by defeating Noah Lyles in last year’s meet in September at Eugene, he has been highly focused on his 2024 Olympic journey. He quoted ahead of the opening Diamond League meeting lately, “I’m looking forward to opening my season with another great performance in China and starting my Olympic campaign off on a great note.” Yohan Blake, on the other hand, shared his fame on X, quoting it like the “Diamond League activities.” Just as the League is a few days away, it would be interesting to compare the two athletes’ professional career statistics and net worth.

The indoor 60m world record champion, Christian Coleman, has an estimated net worth of $1 million—$5 million. Quoted as one of the highest-paid athletes of Team USA, his seven-figure salary from the sports brand Nike is in itself a huge amount that the star athlete is receiving. An official endorser of Nike since the time he won the 100m and 200m dash at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships, Christian Coleman aims to grow his financial and professional numbers with his striking performances on the field.

On the other hand, the other richest Olympian, Yohan Blake, has a net worth of 5 million dollars. His journey took off, especially from the point of time when he breezed through the 100m dash in the 2011 World Championships. He later on won a silver at the 2012 Olympics and delivered his personal best of 9.69 in the 100m dash. Called off as the dominant Jamaican sprinter, Yohan Blake signed his first major deal with a Jamaican manufacturing and distributing company, Wisynco Group Limited. With the Diamond League, Trials, and the grandiose Paris Olympics beginning soon, he aims to etch his name to the top of the podium to gain more reputation than ever before.

Journey to becoming millionaires

The journeys of both world-class sprinters have been amazing from the very start till date as they have gathered a number of accolades and career experiences in their name. While Yohan Blake shifted his career from cricket to sprinting, he got recognition when he defeated the GOAT, Usain Bolt, at 2012 Jamaican Olympic Trials in the 100m and 200 dash. In fact after getting a silver next to the greatest of all athletes, Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake could not hold his elation and spoke, “Only the fastest man in the world beat me. Only four years ago, I was still in high school and watching the Olympics on TV, so it was amazing for me to be among these athletes.” The Rio Olympics were a great boon to him as he grabbed his fourth Olympic medal and his second gold.

On the other hand, Christian Coleman is a 2017 World Champion Silver Medalist in the 100m and 4x100m dash, a 2018 World Indoor Champion in 60m, a 2018 Diamond League Champion as stated above, a 2019 World Champion (100m, 4x100m) and a 2023 4x100m and Diamond League champion. On his path to the 2024 Paris Olympics, the 27-year-old Coleman, who has a record in his name of timing 6.41s in the 60m dash in Glasgow, claimed, “Everyone’s goal is first to make the team but whoever makes that team is obviously well capable of getting on that relay pool and doing something special. The world record is definitely within our reach.”
