The 22-year-old has started in the SEC Championships, NCAA South Regional, and NCAA Cross Country Championships, and recently secured a NIL deal as well.

But before all the glory came her way, it was an accident that altered the direction of her life. As she touches one more milestone in her inspirational career, the cross-country standout revealed the life-threatening details of the ATV accident that changed her life forever.

Track and Field star amputated at 14 years of age

In a recent podcast with Citius Mag, Track and field star Ashley Jones shared the details of the accident she had at the age of 14. “Yes I was in an ATV accident at the age of 14“, she revealed. Earlier, she expressed that the accident felt like it was ages ago given the success she has achieved. However, she keeps having “ebbs and flows” and sometimes feels the frightening accident happened a few days ago only.

Sharing the exact details of the incident, Ashley revealed that she was in the passenger seat when the car fell over her right side. “So the vehicle fell on my right side. I was in the passenger seat and unfortunately with a bunch of different conditions that vehicle rolled onto my right side and crushed my arm”, she shared the details. However, the then 14-year-old didn’t know where it would lead her until she reached the hospital where her arm was amputated later.

As Ashley Jones was transferred to the hospital, she couldn’t move her right arm with doctors suggesting surgery. Talking about this moment, the SEC Champion added, “So that was the moment it changed a lot for in mind..Okay this might change my life and I woke up that morning as a right arm amputee“. She further revealed that her amputation was on the whole right arm and a few inches below her shoulder.

However, while admitting that the incident changed her whole life, Ashley added that in the longer it didn’t matter. ” You can also chase after amazing dreams and chase after exciting things“, she beamed with positivity. And so has she proved in her short yet illustrious career, and will keep on proving in the future.
