The iconic track and field record

Travis Miller, who is known for covering track and field extensively, has shared a post on his Twitter handle. It is a list of the female athletes with the fastest 200-meter finishes. Florence Griffith Joyner, who passed away in 1998, still holds the record for the fastest finish of 21.34 seconds in 200 meters. She set the record during the 1988 Summer Olympics. Interestingly, Flo-Jo’s record is one of the longest-standing sprinting records in history. Even after 35 years, these records remain unbroken, a testament to Flo-Jo’s extraordinary talent and dominance.

The list also features the current 200-meter world champion, Shericka Jackson, with 21.45 seconds, which she set last year. However, Jackson has bettered her record this year and claimed the title in an incredible 21.41 seconds. Her fellow Jamaican and another sprinting legend, Elaine Thompson-Herah, also made it to the list with 21.53 seconds. Gabby Thomas is also there in fourth place with 21.60 seconds, which came this year during the American trials. Even though Jackson could not break Joyner’s record, it was still a pure showcase of dominance from this Jamaican runner at Budapest, as no one even came close to her during the heat.

A true exhibition of supremacy

She started the race really well, took the early lead, and maintained it until the end. The notable gap between her and fellow athletes was remarkable, yet Sha’Carri Richardson, who triumphed over her in the 100-meter finals, gave her all to challenge the distinction. But it was clearly her day, and it was visible on the Nemzeti Atlétikai Központ (National Athletics Centre) Stadium. However, Sha’Carri Richardson, who was running her maiden world championship, has impressed everyone and has sent a statement that she arrived.
