22-year-old Eden Rainbow-Cooper of Britain has etched her name into the annals of Boston Marathon history. In a dazzling display of grit, she clinched victory in the women’s wheelchair race. But what’s more surprising is the fact that she did it all alone, without the support of any single sponsor.
Rainbow-Cooper began her journey in the tracks in 2013 as a T54 wheelchair racer. She has previously made her nation proud by winning a silver in the 2022 Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham. In the same year, she also won London’s Big Half equaling Swiss athlete Manuela Schär’s course record. And this year, without any backing of fancy endorsements she emerged victorious in the Boston Marathon.

“Just to get my own racing chariot back, I did a fundraiser about a year and a half ago. And so many of my friends and family were able to give me some money to help me put towards my chair.” But this year, Rainbow-Cooper changed the course of the game and grabbed the title and unofficially clocked a time of 1:35:11.
However, this achievement is not just her individual success. With this win she became the first woman from Great Britain to clinch a victory in the Boston Marathon. She mentioned that although she did not envision the win, she was wholeheartedly waiting for the moment after the setback she had to face last year.

Eden Rainbow-Cooper did not stop competing after competing in the 2022 Boston Marathon. In the Dubai Marathon last year, she added how thrilling it was to be in the tracks. She said, “Along the whole course it was an amazing atmosphere, music playing, people shouting”. Narrating her experience after securing a win in that season she further added “At the start, I wasn’t too nervous, I was all right, but the adrenaline was up, the heart rate was going”.
With every push of her wheelchair, Eden Rainbow-Cooper defied all expectations breaking the barriers of conventional racing. Her journey to the finish line was not just about emerging victorious but about doing it all alone with full faith on her own athletic power.
