The Mississippi State Track and Field team got off to a great start to their 2024 season winning big at the UAB Vulcan Invite, an indoor meet. Further, the NCAA track news drew more fans to the Bulldogs when they recorded an astounding 16 first-place results and 37 top-five finishes.

One of the most impressive performances came from freshman sprinter Jordan Ware, who dominated the 200-meter sprint and placed in the top five nationally for the indoor category. In the two-day event of the outdoor meet, the 2024 Hurricane Invitational, Ware added yet another spectacular win, earning a new ranking in the NCAA track records leaderboard as of the most recent update.

NCAA Track News highlights rookie track sensation

Jordan Ware’s lightning-fast speed continued to astound on day 2 of the Hurricane Invitational. Ware further cemented his reputation as a star on the NCAA track circuit with an improved 20.25 sprint time in the outdoor season-opening in 200m posted @FitzDunk on X. Standing 6’4″ tall, he is currently the second-fastest runner in the 200m on both the indoor and outdoor all-time top-five lists, only behind more experienced competitors.

The Bulldogs dominated several other events as well; in the men’s 600 meters, Tyrese Reid led an incredible sweep, while in the shot put, junior Roury McCloyen defended her first-place title. Additionally, senior Jhordyn Stallworth took home a silver in the shot put with an incredible throw of 16.41m, shattering the college record. With the impressive lineup of performances, the Bulldogs are set up for further success as they prepare for Mississippi State’s upcoming Alumni Bulldog Relays. However, as hinted by their victorious indoor seasonal meet, their performance continues to reach new heights.

Bulldog’s flurry of medals in indoor competition

Not long ago, Jordan Ware made history at the UAB Vulcan Invite (Jan 13) when he set a new national track record in the 200m with an impressive time of 20.93. Although many other athletes contributed to Bulldog’s victory haul of thirty-seven top wins! Some of them included Tyrese Reid in the men’s 600m, while sophomore Mallory Streetman excelled in the women’s 600m.

Coach Woods was proud and upbeat about the team’s prospects, and said, “It’s early in the season and we have a lot of things that we can improve on.” The Bulldogs have a lot of skill and a strong will to succeed, which will help them stand out in the NCAA track scene.
