The track and field heroics can’t be overlooked, no matter how many sporting categories try to snatch the limelight. The objectives and skill sets of track and its closest comrade, the NFL, may differ. But the athleticism of both is perfectly aligned. Especially common in wide receivers and quarterbacks, speed has been the biggest game-changer in the football domain. But the professional speedsters will leave no stone unturned to maintain their dominance.

A week-long showcase called the NFL Scouting Combine rose to fame when college football players started pushing limits for NFL Draft position grabs. This event made way for several successful strides in the 40-yard dash, especially Xavier Worthy. He headlined for besting track virtuoso Usain Bolt in the same event. Since then, a much-needed collab has been in demand. While both disciplines – (NFL and T&F) hinge heavily on speed, let’s do a side-by-side comparison taking a case study into account from both sports.

The X post of Rori Dunk reads, It’s time for the NFL vs Athletics Combine Here are the top 3 speeds from the 2023/24 NFL season vs the top 3 speeds from this weekend’s world Indoor championships”. The picture paired with it has the best times of the NFL and track stars in the past and present seasons combined. In the NFL column, the top raters are D.K. Metcalf (22.23 mph), Chase Brown (22.05 mph), and Tyreek Hill (22.01 mph). On the other, the top speedsters of track and field are Noah Lyles (26.4 mph), Christian Coleman (25.6 mph) and Ackeem Blake (25.4 mph). From the visuals, the average mph of track and field is more than the NFL, but in no time, it can be potently challenged.

Noah Lyles, the celebrated ‘threepeat’ star, tasted peak success with 3 golds at the 2023 World Championships. But Tyreek Hill showed great finesse at the USATF Masters Indoor Championships’ 60m race, which earned him a gold. In 2024, if the two realms lock horns, these two personalities will garner the most attention. But is another furtive figure on the rise?
