For sprinters, getting that perfect launch is of paramount importance to achieve their top speeds during the run. And that is one area where Noah Lyles has been constantly struggling despite having multiple accolades in his kitty. Therefore, he is looking to make every opportunity count to better that. With several meetings filling Lyles’ diary pages for the coming weeks, the 26-year-old is taking preparations for the Games to a whole new level. And the focus of that is his much-talked-about starts.
In a recent post on X by Track Spice, Lyles’ latest experiment has been shed light upon. “Noah Lyles teams up with sports mechanics research expert Ralph Mann focusing on enhancing his race start,” reads the caption of the post. “He works with the body…learns how to make it faster,” says Noah in the accompanying video.

Lyles also said that he’s been working with the biomechanist to find the angles that would give him the fastest starts. With the USATF Bermuda Meet coming up on April 26, Lyles will get the perfect opportunity to test his newest hypotheses. And for the aware fans, the Bermuda Grand Prix is just the place that should be the place for Noah to introduce his new starting technique to the world.
Noah Lyles’ high ambitions seek help from an old veteran
At last year’s USATF event, Lyles’ 100m dash raised several eyebrows. A wobbly start saw him finish second, behind Christian Coleman, despite an arduous effort to make up for the slow start in the second half of the race. “I have a lot of power, but I don’t get to apply it as directly as I want to“, admitted Lyles last year as well. Possibly the wish to overcome his drawback is the very reason that prompted Noah to team up with the 1972 Olympic medalist and fitness guru Mann. With that in mind, the new video clip shows Lyles determined to jerk his body from its slumber. “We’re gonna wake the body up to say, hey we’re gonna be sprinting today“.
In the video, Mann underlines the fact that “The difference between a great athlete and a good athlete is about 1%“. Mann also claimed that “His (Noah’s) start is something that is gonna get him that last 10th of a second he needs“. With so much expertise around him to help him adjust his techniques over the last few weeks, it remains to be seen if Lyles can make the most of the intense training sessions this weekend. With his outdoor season debut seeing him win another gold at the Tom Jones Memorial, many fans believe Lyles’ time to shine on the international stages is finally here.
