Sha’Carri Richardson Calls Out Disrespect, Christian Coleman Trashes On Internet: Track And Field Surrounded By Misinformation Controversy

Sha’carri Richardson has often criticized the media for overlooking the human side of athletes during coverage. After meeting a defeat in 100m at the 2022 US Outdoor Championships, she had offered, “Athletes deserve way more respect,” after speeding through the swarming media. Today as she and the athletes make news with a spree of events, the 23-year-old has risen once again; this time in the social media sphere.

The Olympic year has kept the athletics stars active and occupied in hopes of climbing the ladder, further offering an instance for discussion amongst enthusiasts. Sha’carri Richardson rides on the stance with Christian Coleman today as she warns her followers of lack of ‘clue and credibility’.

In her recent X post, the 100m reigning world champion voiced that certain social media pages hold no credibility or an idea of the information being put out. Sha’carri Richardson, often advocating for the growth of track and field, hence appealed to her audience to stay aware as a favor for their favorite stars. “If y’all actually respect track & field, please stop entertaining & following these track pages that have no clue or credibility to what they are saying about the athletes y’all actually care for.” 

While Richardson did not mention or hint at any particular source, fans held speculations of their own. For, the reaction arrived following Christian Coleman’s tweet on Raes Take TV’s take on Noah Lyles and Coleman’s techniques in Glasgow.

Track and Field in clash of interests

Monzavous Raes Edwards had been a 100m and 200m sprinter during his reign as an athlete. He competed at the 2005 World Championships and then at the Pan American games before going off the scenes in the latter half of the 2010s. Following his competitive run, Raes Edwards shifted to offer speed and agility training through his course online. The sprinter has been at work for years, analysing and offering views. However, with Coleman’s post, he revealed that he would be off the radar.

“It’s been fun. It’s been enjoyable (at times). But this will be my last tweet for not sure how long,” he wrote. Raes Edwards further added that he has loved the sport and stayed true to it, regardless of the reciprocation. “I’ve endured so much pain from this sport. Never being respected,” he pens on X. As he moves ahead, Raes leaves in hopes for a change, much like the persisting athletes hope for the sport.
