Sha’Carri Richardson seems to be on a redemptive streak. As a track and field athlete ruling the sports, her posts and words carry considerable value. Sha’Carri is one of the best 100m and 200m racing individuals at her tournament level. Meaning that she is widely followed on social media. But being quite out and open on social media can have its own downsides.

In 2021, Richardson had to face public rage and disapproval because she liked a particular post. Her team did go into damage control mode quickly but the damage was done.

In 2021, Sha’Carri had liked a post that trolled a fellow racer, Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser. She even changed her Twitter profile photo to both of them together. But, as of September 11th, almost a year after the incident, Richardson changed her profile picture back.

Sha’Carri’s social media game is strong. But this backfired after she liked a fan’s tweet in August of 2021 that trolled Jamaican athlete Fraser.

In the 100m race, the Jamaican star had finished at the last position and one of the fans had tweeted how Shelly looked like a popular rapper, Lil Wayne. Richardson liked the tweet, probably forgetting that the internet would be able to find this out. The Twitterati was enraged and fans called her out.

After more than a year, she finally touched her Twitter picture. Richardson changed her picture to a seemingly normal solo image of herself. This one is a close-up shot, probably a selfie where she could be seen holding some flowers. This has left a lot of athletics fans wondering if the issue has been resolved between the Jamaican and the US athlete.

Richardson’s many controversies

For Sha’Carri, controversy never seems to come to an end. She was dropped from the US team after she tested positive for a drug. But, that did not keep her quiet. She rather used that opportunity to compare her situation with athlete Kamila Valieva, who had also tested positive.
