In the ongoing outdoor track and field season, Sha’Carri Richardson has only tried the 200m events. However, in both contests, she narrowly suffered defeat. But displaying a staunch champion’s mindset, Sha’Carri has vowed to work on her weak points and come out stronger in the upcoming days.

That might give her fan relief as the reigning world champion has a lot to prove in the upcoming Olympics. Meanwhile, her 100m NCAA timing is facing a wave of attacks from strong-willed sprinters from different levels. At first, Tennessee track and field phenom Jacious Sears put a timing of 10.77 in the 2024 Tom Jones Memorial to challenge Sha’Carri’s long-standing NCAA record.

Back in 2019, the LSU alum had completed her 100m sprint in a record 10.75 seconds. So as per the NCAA record book. Sears just sat behind her after the Tom Jones Memorial show. Now, on April 28, Aleia Hobbs posted her reply by finishing the 100m race in 10.78s at the LSU Invitational. Favour Ofili also cleared the 100m race with Aleia by clocking simultaneously. Surprisingly, in another part of the USA, there was another attempt to break Sha’Carri Richardson’s 100m NCAA record almost at the same time.

In the Texas Relays in Austin, a Tallaght standout did her best to complete the 100m sprinting, nearing SCR’s record timing. Unfortunately, Rhasidat Adeleke’s record wasn’t counted officially because of the unbounded wind speed (+3.5m/second). But Adeleke completed the 100m race in 10.84 seconds, just 0.09 seconds behind Sha’Carri. In the same race, she pipped the former world champion Dina Asher-Smith who remained at the second position for the 11.10 second-finish. Apart from these attacks, there were several more to unsettle Sha’Carri Richardson from the NCAA record book.

Audrey Leduc, the Canadian phenom registered her effort in recording her 100m race in 10.96 seconds this year in the LSU Bernie Moore Stadium. Among these standouts, Jacious Sears remained confident to decimate the American champion’s record in the upcoming days. So what does this mean for Sha’Carri Richardson?

Sha’Carri Richardson remains unabated in her future endeavors

Last year, Sha’Carri Richardson clarified her target or goal for the rest of her track and field time. In a conversation with NBC Sports, the 2x world champion said, “This journey for me, from since I first came on the professional level [in 2019] to now is just knowing that no matter what happens, you never lose sight of yourself.”

So as of now, Sha’Carri Richardson is putting her effort for the Paris Olympics only. Moreover, to make her demand stronger, she has been transforming herself. Her agent, Renaldo Nehemiah, responded to her transformations in the recent timeline. At the same time, SCR put up her reply to the fore: “I’m not back. I’m better and I’m going to continue to be better.”

Hence, this could be her motto stepping into the Paris Olympic season. And at the same breath, it could be added that her only priority at present is being better. So the NCAA record may not work on her aesthetics in the present situation. Rather, Sha’Carri would be looking to improve her 100m senior timing, which is standing at 10.65 seconds- far above her NCAA timing.
