I have been chasing my PR for years.” Hunter Woodhall couldn’t have had a better phrase to describe his exhilaration after surging past the finish line. Witnessed by the roaring crowds at the Ansin Sports Complex in Miramar, Florida, he set a new American record at the 2024 U.S. Paralympic Team Trials yesterday. But this doesn’t come as a surprise, since the 3-time Paralympic medalist isn’t new to shattering records. Woodhall had previously shattered his own 2021 record in 100m T62 at the U.S. Paralympics Track & Field National Championships in March.

The sprinter had previously mentioned wanting to focus on 400m, a race he couldn’t partake in at the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships in Paris. Due to a few technical difficulties, Woodhall had to sit this one out. But his stellar performance at the trials might take him one step closer to his fourth Paralympic berth. Being the ever-supportive partner, Tara Davis-Woodhall watched as Hunter crossed the finish line, cementing himself as the one to watch in the French capital—and she had something to say about her husband!

Tara Davis-Woodhall lauds Hunter Woodhall’s stellar performances

Last week, Hunter Woodhall posted a few images of him mid-sprint on Instagram. Accompanying the images was his statement expressing how he’s looking forward to showing everyone what he’s been working on. At the U.S. Paralympic Team Trials, he did just that by clinching two impressive victories. NBC Olympics & Paralympics posted his record-breaking win on X, captioned “Hunter Woodhall sets a new AMERICAN RECORD in the men’s T62 400m with a 46.09! His wife—and Team USA Olympian—Tara Davis-Woodhall was there to congratulate him at the finish line. ❤️ #ParaTrials24“. While Woodhall was ecstatic about the record, he was grateful that he had found joy in the sport yet again.

As the gun went off, Woodhall dashed into a comfortable sprint and, within no time, was able to gain an easy lead. While Blake Leeper was hot on his trail, Hunter confidently made his way to the finish line. And then, with a stellar time of 46.09 seconds, he emerged victorious in the men’s T62 400m event. Leeper came in second with 48.00 seconds, and Lucas Jundt eventually crossed the finish line in 54.04 seconds.

After finishing his race, he promptly made his way to his wife, Tara Davis-Woodhall, who kept cheering him on in the stands. As he caught his breath, the sprinter eventually celebrated this monumental feat with Tara. Woodhall expressed how cathartic he felt on Instagram later on.

I heard Tara yell “execute” and I locked back in.” However, this wasn’t the only American record Woodhall set at the trials.

In the 100m prelim at the Ansin Sports Complex, he blazed through to the finish line, setting a PB of 10.75 seconds. Davis-Woodhall celebrated his win on Instagram alongside pictures of the power couple. “My love… inspirational. That’s what you are. This season you have worked so hard to be the best version of Hunter Woodhall you could be!” She concluded the heartfelt post by saying, “Tomorrow will show you what you’re made of.✨” And that’s exactly what Hunter Woodhall did.

The track and field duo have always had each other’s backs

It wasn’t just Tara Davis-Woodhall who showed up to cheer her husband on during the Paralympic Trials; Hunter Woodhall did the same for her during the Olympic Trials last month. At the historic Hayward Field in Eugene, the world indoor champion was hoping to secure a spot on the Paris-bound team. But during the women’s long jump finals, she missed the mark on her first two jumps. While she felt her dream slowly fade away, Davis-Woodhall had one last try to gain three more attempts.

In her third attempt, she jumped an impressive 6.64 m, giving her yet another chance to secure her spot in the attempts left. And finally, in her fifth attempt, she leaped to a massive 7.00m, clinching first place and a chance to represent the USA in Paris. Tara Davis-Woodhall immediately made her way to her husband in the stands to celebrate. Shortly after, Hunter penned a heartfelt note for his wife on Instagram. “The theme for this whole year has been fighting through adversity. Somehow every time, she’s come out on top,” emphasizing how he continues to be humbled by his wife.

With Hunter Woodhall’s recent performance at the Paralympics, the lovebirds are hoping to make it to the City of Love together. Tara will be looking to trade her 2023 World Championships silver medal for an Olympic gold, while Hunter will be aiming to add a Paralympic gold to his collection. Will you be cheering on for this track-and-field power couple in the French capital?
