Track-and-field star runs against all the odds

In a twist of fate, Ashley Jones went through a life-altering moment. At 14 years of age, she met with an ATV accident, which shattered her as she lost her right arm. Citius Mag recently sat with Jones in a podcast to hear “her inspiring story, her progression in the sport, and her goals as she looks ahead to track season and beyond.” Her positive attitude toward life flashed when she talked about losing her hand in the accident.

Referring to the healing process after the accident, Ashley said, “One thing that’s been a coping mechanism with all of that is laughter and just the comedy of it. You can’t take those scenarios so seriously because they will have an effect on you if you really think about them…If the response is super negative, then you lose the opportunity to be like, ‘no, it’s okay…” After a series of events, Ashley joined Tennessee’s team this year past fall. This led her to the opportunity to be a leader during the cross-country season and became a part of something unexpected.

No one expected a series of great performances from team Tennessee. Talking about the season, Ashley said , “It was exciting to also be the underdogs throughout the season and grow in the ranks…I think it was an amazing season and the question in front of us now is how we take that season knowing what works and what doesn’t work and translate it into indoor and outdoor season.” However, this is not the only achievement Ashley features in her astonishing resume.

The NIL with On remains another highlighting moment for her season. In the same interview, she said, “It’s my first big NIL, and I’m excited that everything’s breaking on the same day…I’m really looking forward to it. It’s been an amazing process working with Kevin from On, just looking towards the future with some really exciting things that we have coming down the pipeline.” Interestingly, Ashley has her takeway from the NIL deal and that is not all about herself.

She pointed out, “I’m trying to encourage people that life doesn’t just happen — you have to buy in and step out and know that there are great plans. I think that’s my biggest takeaway.” As Ashley is set to start the new season, enthusiasts are ready to witness the shine of her grit once again.
