2x Olympic Medalist Gabby Thomas Talks About Her Life Outside Track and Field Practice: “Giving Back…”

Gabby Thomas has a bronze in the 200m and a silver in the 4 × 100 m relay at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. But being a postgraduate in public health, she has never refrained from talking about democratizing healthcare information to the general public. Acting as a vital instrument in facilitating such services, she believes balancing between her on and off-the-track life helps her treat both aspects with equal importance.

Understandably, Gabby is currently setting her goals for the 2024 Paris Olympics. But amid that, she takes time to share her opinion on how important her off-the-field routine related to healthcare is to her.

I expect to still be in health care right now. I volunteer at a healthcare clinic in Austin and we provide access to health care for people who don’t have health insurance and that’s really meaningful work. They do such incredible things.” She discusses her indulgence in providing appointments, dental care, care of the children, and any other service that the common man can’t afford to get and needs assistance with.

Gabby Thomas added, “Doing work like that is impactful for me and it makes a difference, especially to work so close to the local community. So, being a part of this community that I occupy and giving back in such a meaningful way.” Her vision to continue this work, five years from now, therefore, is already decided. Interestingly, she also has such an advanced vision set for her track career as well.

Thinking about the Olympics, now and four years beyond

Gabby Thomas hopes to triumph in both the upcoming Olympics in Paris and the LA Olympics in 2028. She could not hold back from declaring, “I’m so excited for Paris right now, but it’s so hard not to even think ahead and get excited about something like that…The LA 2028 Olympics coming up after Paris 2024 and it feels so long from now, but it comes up quickly.” She also added her verse on how impactful and magical it is to wear the Team USA jacket.

Gabby stated, “It’s such an honor because there is so much that goes into it behind the scenes.” Planning both her runs, the World Champion depicts her deep interest in giving her best. Currently visualizing her win in the upcoming Paris Olympics, for which only a few months are due, Gabby Thomas quoted the process as meditation-like, on her journey to prepare for the races.
