With the Paris Olympics around the corner, boastful claims are setting up the stage nicely for the big showdown. Like every last few games, track and field stars from around the world are bracing up once again with hopes of usurping Usain Bolt’s world records. American sensation Noah Lyles has claimed blatantly that he will do everything in his power to take the highest spot in the food chain, and it looks like Lyles isn’t the only one who believes that the Jamaican’s time at the top is nearing its end.

With another gold medal in his bag at the Diamond League 2024, Christian Coleman has joined Noah Lyles in unison and thinks Bolt’s records may not be so unbreakable after all. As Noah continues to dream big for four gold medals at the upcoming Games, Coleman, too, might be eyeing something similar.

Christian Coleman thinks Usain Bolt won’t be the ringleader for longer

In a recent social media post by Wanda Diamond League, Coleman’s views on Bolt’s legacy have been shared with the fans. “@__coleman on why @usainbolt‘s 100m world record isn’t unbreakable for the current crop of sprinters“, reads the caption of the post as the accompanying video shows Coleman referring to Bolt’s 100m record (9.58) and saying, “Honestly I feel like a lot of the guys who are competing today who are not that far off“. 

While his statement might make many reconsider putting their eggs in the Bolt basket in the future, the eight-time Olympic gold medalist might beg to differ. The world’s fastest man refuses to consider any competition at all, even when it comes from some true heavyweight runners like soccer star Kylian Mbappe. However, Coleman, on the other hand, is doing everything in his power to edge past Bolt at the Paris Games.

“I feel like it has to be in the perfect condition, on the right day, the right time, and the right venue“, said Coleman in the recent post underscoring that he’s focusing on upping his own game right now. But he certainly won’t be the only one who has had any dream of pulling off an unexpected move on Bolt’s triumphs.

Usain Bolt’s foes are lining up

Lyles has been preparing hard to shut his critics once and for all. After a thrilling display on the tracks at the World Indoor Championship in Glasgow, Noah won gold again in his debut outdoor run at the Tom Jones Memorial. And he hasn’t been the only threat to Bolt’s speeds, either. The Jamaican himself claimed that Justin Gatlin frequently kept the former on his toes, making him constantly improve himself. And probably that’s exactly why Bolt feels a last run should be warranted, just to show his opponents who still hold the gate.

Bolt has been hinting at a return for quite some time now, even if it’s not the Olympics. But with names like Fred Kerley and Tyreek Hill waiting to pounce at the opportunity at the French capital later this year, Bolt might have a few sweaty nights ahead.
