Gabby Thomas set a new meet record in the 2024 Texas relay that was held in Austin, Texas, from March 27 to 30. With America’s finest battling it out in all the Olympic precursor events, the furtive Sha’carri Richardson will unfortunately not be showcasing her prowess come April 6th at the Miramar Invitational.

Keeping this butterfly effect of the American women’s sprinters in mind, it seems like Gabby Thomas might be filling in for Richardson’s lacuna. Cut to a thunderous start in the women’s 200m invitational category, Gabby Thomas left behind Tamara Clark and Lynna Irby – Jackson after registering an impressive time of 22:08s. Not only the 200, but the New Balance athlete also soared the gold in the 100m with a stunning time record of 10:88s to surpass Celera Barnes and Clark. With that in mind, Gabby Thomas was the conduit of praises of an American legend himself.

Captioned as, “Why Team USA can beat Jamaica’s 4×100 record, 16-year-old OLYMPIAN & the Texas and Florida Relays”, the Ready Set Go YouTube podcast revealed the demonstration of Gabby Thomas’ exemplary performance on the track this time. Clinching a new meet title in her name this while, the stance compelled Justin Gatlin and Rodney Green to have a discussion about her proficiency in the field. “You had Gabby Thomas. She went out there and did her thing in the 100 meters she came back doored with the 200 meters she ran 10:88 to start off”, were the praises Thomas incurred by Gatlin.

While Gabby Thomas started off great, she sustained her performance throughout. “I think no female had an opener like that” ever before, the podcast revealed. She’s already ran 10:88 right now and her 200 that’s her bread and butter bro so you already know if she runs a good 100 she’s going to run a great 200 she came across the line with a legal.” Gatlin bemoans, lauding her form.

Rodney Green goes on to say that no one has witnessed such a fantastic opener from any female athlete before Gabby Thomas actually dominated the race. As she has had a great 100m, she also was well versed in the 200m run because it seemed like she had been working on the second half of the race pretty well. “She came across the line with a legal 22:08. To start her season off, she is already going to be sub 22, going into the 21s already . Her season looks very good man.” While Gabby Thomas outshined in her debut season, another competitor of hers, who anchored the 4x100m gold and a new championship record at the 2023 World Athletics Championships, has announced her delay in debuting in this year’s Olympic season.

Sha’Carri Richardson might be off to a late start this year
