August 23, 2023, At the US Athletics Championship 2023, Sha’Carri Richardson stomps over Shericka Jackson at the 200m.
Shericka Jackson proved once again that she is the queen of the 200m race at the World Athletics Championships. The track and field world saw a terrific showdown between the reigning champion Shericka Jackson and the contender Sha’Carri Richardson. Jackson held her ground and defended her title from the American sprinting icon. However, there is one jewel that is still missing from her crown, which she will be chasing in the upcoming Brussels Diamond League 2023.
The legendary Jamaican sprinter participated in the 200m event at the Zurich Diamond League with the purpose of shattering a long-standing record. Although she won the race, Shericka Jackson didn’t surpass Florence Griffth Joyner’s 21.34-second record from 1988. Will she finally be able to achieve her goal and break the record at the Brussels Diamond League?

Shericka Jackson chasing 35-year-old track and field record
It has already been 35 years since Florence Griffith-Joyner set the 200m world record in the Seoul 1988 Olympics. Since then, the record has become the holy grail of women’s sprinting, with many athletes coming close to breaking it over the year but ultimately falling short. But in recent years, Shericka Jackson has shown promise and the potential to recreate history.
Every track and field fan will be eagerly watching her performance at the Brussels Diamond League. RunBlogRun, which claims to be the “voice of the sport,” wrote an X post that said, “Now that 200m in #BrusselsDL is going to be crazy hot! Who thinks Shericka Jackson has one more fast 200m in her in 2023?” Though the Jamaican legend is all girded up to clinch another victory on the tracks of Brussels, Richardson will not be taking part in the race.
