After she broke the 100 m sprinting record at the National Collegiate Athletic Association championships, track and field sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson became America’s new rising star. However, she soon got caught in controversies that affected her sporting reputation. Adding yet incident to the list, Richardson recently got into an argument with American Air before being asked to leave the flight. In what seems like an intense exchange between her and the flight attendants, fans are clearly divided in showing their support on either side.

Sha’Carri Richardson recently shared two videos on her Instagram page showing what went down on the flight. Once the flight attendant interrupted her selfie video, things took a downward spiral from there.

Fans’ comments on Sha’Carri Richardson were on both sides of the spectrum

In her Instagram post, Richardson records a male flight attendant who asked her to stop recording during flight take-off. Richardson quickly reacted and things escalated from there. Several passengers got involved and by the end, the captain asked her to leave the flight. Not one to bow down easily, Richardson threatened to legally file a complaint against the airline before getting off. Fans flooded her post with comments ranging from complete support, to publicly shaming her.

It’s hard to point fingers either at her or at the flight authorities, going by the overall reaction of fans. But the aggression with which the fans have commented is pretty indicative of the seriousness of the issue.

The breakdown of events on the plane according to Richardson

Richardson wrote in her post that while a man threatened her, another bystander, asked for a picture with her. Richardson took to her Instagram to rhetorically ask if she would be wrong to report the airlines and their staff. She also called out the various other folks on the plane who publicly disrespected her.

While she clearly has the support of her fans, some are calling for this matter to be looked upon diligently. Even during her previous instances of marijuana use and suspension thereafter, Richardson never fell out of popularity.
