The captain of the United States national team and OL Reign, Megan Rapinoe is a known name in soccer. Having played soccer for around 3 decades, the Olympic Gold Medal winner dominates the field like no other. Having pushed past many obstacles, Megan knew her world would change when she led her team to a decisive victory.

Referring to her experience, Megan said, “I knew that things weren’t going to be the same, and couldn’t be the same, and I didn’t want them to be the same.” Scoring two goals in such a crucial match was perhaps a clear message that Megan had more to offer on the field. But she knew for herself that she “can’t play that many minutes.”

Having multiple reservations, the soccer star says, “I don’t think I can have that kind of impact and output that I did early in my career.” She did not know what her new role would entail and whether or not it would benefit her and the team.
Megan Rapinoe talks with Vlatko Andonovski
A self-aware person, Megan started working on her questions in November. In a series of calls, she laid out all her fears in front of USWNT head coach Vlatko Andonovski. Having a new generation of players, Vlatko had to make tough calls.

Megan knew she still has more to offer on the field as a player. Understanding Megan’s concern, Vlatko reassured, “If she’s healthy, and if she’s fit to get minutes, then she will be on the roster.”
