Megan Rapinoe is an outstanding soccer player who has been leading the USWNT to victory for years now. She started playing from the age of three along with her twin sister, Rachel, initially coached by her father. Rapinoe’s family has been instrumental in pursuing a career in the sport. Interestingly, her skills were discovered as a typical champion athlete’s material early in her childhood.

Her strong demeanor suggests that she is driven by a powerful force of her thoughts and convictions. In light of this, her sister, Jennifer Brooks, recounts a childhood memory of witnessing the winger wonder’s game-changing skills that left her spellbound.

When Megan Rapinoe and her twin-sister played together

Jennifer Brooks, who is nine years older than Megan, once watched the twin sisters, four or five years of age play soccer ferociously in the backyard, giving each other a tough competition. Evidently, their skills at such a young age took her by surprise. “You could see the determination and skill,” said Brooks. 

“It just was unreal.” She expressed sheer disbelief. Also, she shared she remembered thinking, “Oh, my gosh, they’re going to be in the Olympics someday.”

Sharing further about Megan, she said there was a marking on her right wrist that she shares with Brooks. It’s a tattoo of ‘W’. Jennifer continued it represents the line of women in their family and they all were warriors. Fair to say, Megan’s spirit of activism results from growing up amidst such powerful women in her family.

To support their warrior spirit, Brooks said, “We’re just driven, and Megan has always been overdriven.”

The soccer star cum activist has displayed her tenacity on several occasions not only on the field but also while making a point against gender discrimination and being courageous to accept one’s true identity. 

Megan fights to change the narrative

The accomplished soccer player has earned people’s love and support in her effort to change the narrative. The soccer player said, “One of the greatest gifts I’ve been given is to be gay and to have this perspective,” Her bold confession not only helped her accept herself as a gay to the world but also empowered many individuals facing a similar situation. 

Talking about unequal pay, she said “Men are so often paid and compensated on the potential that they show, not necessarily what they’ve done.” Moreover, she strongly advocates that they are all players and they deserve equal treatment.
