The semifinals of the 2023 NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship have kicked off. The first matchup is between the Nebraska Huskers and the Pittsburgh Panthers. Following this, the Wisconsin Badgers will lock horns with the Texas Longhorns. However, the Huskers fandom has a lot to say about the Badgers-Longhorns showdown.

After the Nebraska Huskers playoff against the Pittsburgh Panthers, Wisconsin and Texas will grace the court for the semifinal playoff. This has got the adrenaline of several Huskers fans surging with anticipation. A social media post displayed this very emotion as Nebraska supporters revealed who they want to win in the Badgers-Longhorns matchup.

The thrill and the terror of Wisconsin in Nebraska Huskers fans

Big Ten Volleyball tweeted a video of an interviewer walking up to Nebraska Huskers fans and asking them who they are rooting for. The tweet carried the caption, “We asked @huskervb fans who they were rooting for in the Wisconsin/Texas match-up. Answers were split.”

One of the fans pointed out the regular season clashes between the two teams and said, “We’ve played Wisconsin previously. We don’t need to play it a third time.” Resonating the same view, but with a stroke of fear, two fans rooted for Texas. When asked why, they said, “Anyone but Wisconsin.” 

Nevertheless, one fan stated, “I hope Texas, but I think Wisconsin will win.” The sentiment was echoed by another Nebraska Huskers supporter who said, “That’s a tough call, but I think I’m rooting for Wisconsin.”

The Wisconsin Badgers and the Nebraska Huskers have a fierce on-court rivalry. In fact, the 2023 season saw their competitive animosity at its peak.

2023 saw both Wisconsin Badgers and Nebraska Huskers constantly gain advantages over each other, even when they weren’t on the same volleyball court. The season initially started with both teams registering clean sweeping victories. This was followed by Nebraska dethroning Wisconsin from their number one spot in the NCAA in a five-set nail-biter.

However, the Badgers struck Nebraska Huskers back with a clean sweep before ending the regular season. While two players from Nebraska made it to the first All-American team, this number was three for Wisconsin. But, the Huskers hit back as Merritt Beason became the captain of the first All-American team. Who among these former champs will lift the NCAA Volleyball Championship title in 2023?
