While most of the collegiate volleyball teams are focusing on developing strength for the upcoming 2024 Volleyball season, Purdue Boilermakers are making waves throughout social media. The major reason for being under the spotlight is that the team did not play a recent match. Instead, the team is getting acknowledgment for their last season’s performances.

Why are Purdue Boilermakers under the spotlight?

Today, The Purdue Athletic Department revealed that the head coach of the team Purdue Boilermakers, Dave Shondell, will be extending his tenure with the team. Purdue Athletics took to their official Twitter account and posted a short video clip of Shondell with his team. They penned, “Proud to keep @PurdueVB‘s fearless leader in West Lafayette! Here’s to the next four years with @DaveShondell #BoilerUp “. To extend the coaching excellence he provides to the Purdue Boilermakers, Dave signed a four-year extension for the Art and Connie Euler Women’s Volleyball Head Coach post.

In the video interview, Carly Cramer said, “The coaches I still stay in constant contact with. It was a family. And also doing the first of something is really special. And so, my sophomore year when they made us go to the air for the first time, it was incredibly special.” The major reason for getting an extension for four years is Dave’s guidance to the team players.

During his tenure with Purdue Boilermakers, Dave featured 20 Americans, including two important ones with Eva Hudson and the freshman Chloe Chicoine. In addition to this, Dave has taken the team to the AVCA Poll rankings with a record of 107 consecutive weeks. Dave said, “My athletes understood the board very well. I think a lot of the athletes that I could have stayed, stayed.”

Dave’s success in coaching can be estimated by not only the honors he has been collecting over the years but also by the remarkable presence he has made in the hearts of the athletes he coached. But, the question now arises: Why can Shondell’s place not be given to anybody else?

Dave Shondell: Feathers of coaching excellence

Interestingly, the 2024 volleyball season will be the 23rd year for Dave as a beloved coach of the Boilermakers, who enjoyed unprecedented success throughout the years. He currently holds a record of 458-226, along with two Big Coach of the Year,2011 Mideast Region Coach of the Year, and 2021 Northeast Region Coach of the Year Accolades shining on his cap of feathers.

Apart from his achievements, Shondell has led Purdue at the NCAA volleyball tournament for the last 18 times. In addition to this, he has never let his team drop first-round matches during his tourney. Recently, the team has completed silver Jumblies with the NCAA. All these reasons are apt for considering Shondell as the lone contender for the post of Purdue Boilermakers head coach. Will the 2024 volleyball season be as efficient as 2023? Only time will tell.
