Since childhood, Randorf struggled with the problem of identifying things even after pouring all her efforts into performing well in academics. Despite regular tutoring, Randorf could never come up equally to the children her age. The major reason for her low performance was her Dyslexia, not her efforts.

In the same tweet and interview with Big Ten Conference, Kathryn said, “ I remember crying, I was so happy that there was something that was wrong with me because I was struggling in school, stepping on court (Volleyball court). It is the only place that I truly feel at peace. It is nice to finally feel like I have a place”. Eventually, she not only competed with the disease but also found a companion in volleyball that took her out of her struggling life. This helped her to become an exceptionally talented player leading the Northwestern team in the coming matches.
