There were 32 teams automatically qualified for the 2023 NCAA Tournament. As the event unfolded, many teams were eliminated, while some made it to the top 16. Along the same lines, two of the winning teams competed against each other to make it to the top 8 teams at the NCAA. 

Eventually, team Pittsburgh made it to the top 16 by defeating Coppin State by 3-0 yesterday. On the other hand, Southern California’s volleyball team secured a win against UMBC on Day 2 of the NCAA Tournament. Although both teams had equal potential, Pittsburgh passed with flying colors while clinching a 3-1 score in the recent showdown. 

NCAA Round 3: Southern California vs. Pittsburgh

On Day 3 of the NCAA, Pittsburgh’s volleyball team locked horns with Southern California’s Volleyball team. Soon after entering the volleyball turf, teams featured cut-throat competition, which kept spectators on the edge of their seats. The recent tweet by NCAA Women’s Volleyball was captioned as, “THE PANTHERS WERE ON THE HUNT  After dropping the first set, (1) Pitt_VB defeats (8) USC in 4 to host Regionals next week.“

In the first set of the showdown, team Southern California secured a win over Pitt by 25-23 (SCU-Pittsburgh). This ensured spectators that this match would be a win for Southern California. But, the showdown took an unexpected turn as team Pittsburgh made a remarkable comeback with 25-20 (Pittsburgh-SCU) and 25-18 in the following sets.

In the last and deciding set of the showdown, team Pittsburgh again showcased their inner potential by clinching the set by 25-18. Fortunately, team Pittsburgh, with the help of its key players, has made it to the top 8 teams at the NCAA Championship. On the other hand team, Southern California, will be eliminated from the same.

Outstanding players on the team

Today’s showdown was entirely grabbed by the team Pittsburgh’s collaborative efforts. However, some of the key players helped team Pittsburgh come back and overcome the intense competition. Notably, Olivia Babcock performed exceptionally securing a 21 individual score and a .159 hitting percentage.

In addition to this, Torrey Stafford also contributed 13.5 points alone to the team’s total while showcasing a remarkable .357 hitting percentage. In the coming matches, the competition will be more intense, and making it to the top 4 will be an uphill battle. Will team Pittsburgh be able to make it to the top 4?
