The Purdue Boilermakers Women’s Volleyball Team was ominously looming over the Wisconsin Badgers as a threat. However, the Boilermakers actually ended up beating an unsteady Wisconsin in a shocking turn of events. Claiming a nail-biting victory in the fifth and final set, Purdue smashed the third-ranking NCAA team.

The Wisconsin Badgers entered the home court of the Purdue Boilermakers on 17 November. Despite the Badgers preventing a near-loss in the fourth set, they eventually got cornered and defeated by the Boilermakers. A social media post declared the result of the victory of Purdue, as Wisconsin Badgers may now face a difficult postseason run.

The Boilermakers become the Spoilermakers

The women of Wisconsin were in a wobbly spot after a fresh defeat against the Penn State Nittany Lions. The Purdue Boilermakers exploited this lack of momentum to become the Spoilermakers for Wisconsin as they registered a flamboyant victory. Purdue Volleyball proudly announced the win of its team via a sharp tweet from its official X account. The tweet carried the caption, “Determination and heart.”

 The Wisconsin Badgers started the match with a first-set victory but failed to capitalize on their advantage and lost two sets in succession. While the Badgers tried to make a comeback and equalized the score to 2-2, they failed to claim the final set of the match.

The Wisconsin Badgers lost the important match with scores of 25-22, 19-25, 20-25, 25-12, 14-16. This was just the third loss of the season for the Badgers. However, it will now act as a thorn in their postseason endeavor. Wisconsin now has a high chance of slipping away from the top four seeds of the tournament, especially when it has yet to face Nebraska.

Facing the Nebraskan wall after back-to-back losses

The Nebraska Huskers are currently the numero uno team in the NCAA Women’s Volleyball tournament. Not very long ago, this status belonged to Wisconsin, who failed to safeguard it as they lost to Nebraska on 21 October. While the Badgers were eagerly waiting to avenge their loss against the Huskers, they have now lost their flaming momentum.

Just like Penn State and Purdue, the Nebraska Huskers also defeated the Wisconsin Badgers in a five-set showdown. Moreover, Wisconsin has suffered two big losses since its defeat against Nebraska. Whereas the Huskers earned their 26th consecutive win on the same day, Wisconsin lost to the Boilermakers. Will Wisconsin be able to avenge its loss against Nebraska? Or will it just become another stepping stone in the Huskers’ flawless season journey?
