Born in California, USA, Speraw used to dream about volleyball from a very tender age. Eventually, he first accomplished his dream by playing on the UCLA Bruins volleyball team. After that, there was no looking back from him. Being a middle blocker, he emerged victorious with two NCAA National Championships titles. Although the boy graduated with a BS in microbiology and genetics, he knew his ultimate dream was only volleyball.

Thus, Speraw initiated his coaching journey as an assistant coach for the USA’s Volleyball team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. he, for the first time, led the team USA as a head coach in 2013. After that, he kept on adding accolades one after another, as he helped the team clinch golds at the 2015 FIVB World Cup and the 2014 FIVB World League.

Nonetheless, he also guided Team USA at the 2016 Olympics, the 2018 FIVB World Championship, and the 2019 Volleyball Nations League World Cup. Consecutively, the team won a bronze medal in each of these tournaments. But his long list of achievements is still ongoing. He is serving as a head coach of USA’s volleyball team and UCLA’s Volleyball team.
