Although Team USA volleyball tasted bitter at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, this time, the Team is prepared for every possible challenge. They have also found a key that often unlocks success: experience. Within the Team, a unique and affectionate role has emerged over the years that is of “Daddies.”

Meet the “Daddies” in the USA Volleyball Team

At the forefront of the Team USA volleyball team are esteemed veterans like Matt Anderson, also known as Daddies. Over time, these players have etched their names in the annals of Volleyball history. The USA Volleyball team has Anderson and other Olympic veterans with wealth of experience. 

Middle Blocker Taylor Averill joked to Olympics.com in an interview, “We have a lot of older dudes… I call them daddies,”

These key players represented their country at the highest level and displayed commitment and dedication to Volleyball. Furthermore, their individual testaments will add to the percentage of success for the USA volleyball team in the Paris Olympics 2024. On the same note, “Daddies” form the bedrock for the USA Men’s volleyball team.

“All that experience, we can draw from that in the big moments in these big tournaments,” Anderson explained speaking with Olympics.com.

In the context of the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024, Daddies assume a role that goes beyond athletic prowess. However, their experience is akin to guiding young players, helping them to navigate complex international competitions and high-pressure environments. Some of the key experienced players include Matt Anderson, David Smith, and Max Holt. This will probably be the last Olympics for Matt Anderson. The player has talked about his retirement after the 2024 Olympics.

But Will “Daddies” make it to the Olympics finals? Only time will tell.
