The Southern Conference (SoCon) Tournament has never disappointed volleyball spectators. The tournament not only features exceptionally talented players but also epic showdowns. Along the same lines, Team Nebraska and Team Citadel have been making headlines since the beginning of the tournament. Both teams not only showed prowess on the court but also accomplished to remain undefeated in the tournament.

However, the tournament is known for taking unexpected turns. In such a turn, Team Citadel lost the streak. Recently, the team lost a battle to an opponent, ending a 23-match-long streak.

Fall of Citadel’s unbeaten baton

As per the recent tweet by Citadel Volleyball, it was captioned as “Final.” In a recent match against an opponent, Western Carolina, team Citadel entered the arena. The epic showdown of Team Cital vs. Team Carolina featured a head-to-head competition. However, team Citadel fell short to team Western Carolina with 2-3.

Team Battle started with 16-25 in the first set, featuring Team Western Carolina dominating the match. However, the following set was quite fortunate for team Citadel as it took the lead by winning the third set by 25-20. The overall scores by both the teams were (16-25-20-25-10) and (25-20-25-15-15). 

Eventually, team Citadel lost the 23-match-long streak in the latest battle, falling short to team Western Carolina. Even though the team tried to perform exceptionally well and take over the lead, they could not do so. WCU won by scores of 25-16, 20-25, 25-20, 15-25 and 15-10. Their loss, however, proved somewhat beneficial for another team.

Citadel’s loss, Nebraska’s gain

The major competition for team Nebraska was team Citadel, as it featured unbeaten till the last match. Since team Citadel lost the latest match, Nebraska is the only team in the tournament that features being unbeaten. Nebraska is currently on a 21-0 winning streak. However, the hope of coming back is still alive. Team Citadel can take the upcoming match with Wofford Terriers as an opportunity to bounce back in the game.

Overall, team Citadel is required to analyze their game and re-strategize in order to shine among the competition. With gifted players like Ali Ruffin featuring a record of 24 kills and 16 digs, team Citadel can potentially dominate the SoCon Tournament. In addition, it also boosts the record of 23 wins prior to the last match. But the question is still the same: Will Team Citadel make it to the finals and make a comeback, or will the Nebraska team remain unbeatable in the tournament? The answers to these questions can also be answered with time.
