As the 2024 Paris Olympics is on its verge, participants across multiple sports are gearing up to take up a coveted spot at the big event. Along the same lines, the USA’s weightlifting team has embarked on the road to Paris 2024. Coming up with record-breaking vibrant battles at the IWF Grand Prix 2nd in Doha, Qatar, the team has been making waves at the ongoing European Weightlifting Championships 2024.

While some athletes on the team shattered records, many of them are yet to perform. One of the key contenders on the team has recently made it to the spotlight. Soon after entering the arena, he started dominating the European Championships Podium to clinch impressive records.

Caden Cahoy shatters own personal best records 

Recently, USA Weightlifting took it to their Twitter account and posted a couple of pictures of Caden Cahoy, who shattered records with his performance at 73kgs at the European Championships. Along with the pictures, they penned, “Huge day for Caden Cahoy at the European Championships! At 73 kg, he lifted personal bests in both the Snatch (144 kg) and clean & jerk (185 kg) for a lifetime best of 329 kg! Cahoy unofficially jumps to 15th in the Olympic Qualifying Rankings with the performance.”

Despite making a tough start at the championships, Team USA has made it to pave its path toward success at the European Championships. Team USA is dominating the European Championships as the event approaches its conclusion. After the second day’s triumphant eight-record victory by the team’s key contender, Hampton Morris, another lifter is on the same road.

On the third day of the event, Caden Cahoy seemed to be unstoppable in Bulgaria. His astonishing skills kept spectators on the edge of their seats as he shattered his own previously set records. Cahoy went 4-6 with personal bests of 144kg in Snatch and 185kg in clean and jerk. Consequently, he recorded 329kgs last night, which is nine kgs above his lifetime’s best record. However, this is only one achievement he has had while returning home. 

Road to Paris 2024 widens for weightlifters

The nine kg improvement in his lifetime personal best performance has not only helped him to rewrite the record under his name but also took him a step closer to the Paris Olympics. The 329kg lift at the European Championships has unofficially helped the boy to move up to 15th rank at the Olympic qualifying rankings.

This can be a major stepping stone in Cahoy’s career as he heads into the IWF World Cup in Phuket, the final 2024 Paris Olympic qualifying event this season. In an exclusive interview with USA Weightlifting, Caden Cahoy said, “I’m pretty happy about my performance todayI would’ve liked to hit my third attempt in each lift but we moved up the OQR so I’m definitely excited about that.”

But, Cahoy was not the only one making waves this Thursday as he shared the day with Ryan Grimsland, who snatched 142 in Snatch and 182 in clean and jerk, accumulating 324kgs. Currently, he is in the 16th position at OQR and is slated to compete along with Cahoy at Worlds in Thailand.
