The luge is a fan and high-octane sport and mastering it is not the easiest feat in the world. But for the Reidls and the Lerches giving it their all sinewing down thin ice against their kith and kin seemed to be a fun albeit challenging endeavor. Marie Reidl and Nina Lerch, who effortlessly secured silver was attributed to their complementary strengths. Luge is a pretty acquired taste when it comes to pursuing it professionally, but the Austrian phenoms proved their mettle on the icy rinks by playing to their strengths and training regimen.

Some fun tête-à-tête with Austria’s prodigies
Lina Reidl and Anna Lerch, the formidable duo posited as to why, despite winning the bronze, they could have shot for the stars. “The first run didn’t go as well as we planned but the second was better. Bronze is still very good” – opine Lina Reidl. When confronted with the thought-provoking question of facing off against their own respective sisters, who ironically won the silver, Lina says –“They are funny and are always here for us. It’s fun to be with them in training and it’s just cool”.

When Anna Lerch was asked what specifically was the crowning moment for her in the game, she replied, “The second run was the best we have ever had here, absolutely. We had great lines and the start was really great. I think with a better first run we would have gotten a better result, but it’s still OK.”
