Amidst preparation for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics, USA’s wrestling spectators are on the edge of their seats while watching Pan American Championship showdowns across multiple weights. The first day of the event was a hit as seven of the USA’s Greco-Roman wrestlers made it to conclude matchups with podium finishes.

Since Day 2 of the event began, the USA’s roaster has been coming up on the wrestling arena with the heavy weight of expectations to portray prowess on the mat. Along the same lines, one of the top Greco-Roman secured a bitter-sweet victory today.

Pan American Championships: Alan Vera secures silver

After a recent showdown, USA Wrestling took it to their official Twitter account and announced ecstatic news about Alan Vera’s recent win among the spectators. They penned, “Alan Vera goes 1-1 at the Poland open after winning a razor close 3-3 bout over Dogan Goktas & falling to Assakalov of Uzbekistan.

Coming up with a bronze medal from the 2023 Senior Pan American Championships at 87kgs, Alan Vera was expected to perform exceptionally at the event. Keeping up the expectations, Alan dominated the opponent while eyeing the gold medal this time. Alan paved his way through by defeating Pedro Uriel Bello Soto of Mexico by 11-2 and Luillys Jose Perez Mora by 5-3. In the semifinals, Vera acquired all his points from the par terre position following his opponent’s passivity penalty. However, in the final showdown, he fell to Kevin Meija Castillo to 8-0. But this is not the only setback for Vera in today’s matchup.

Alan Vera’s US Olympic Qualifiers Quest

Alan Vera’s recent defeat seized the opportunity to claim the US Olympic Trials berth. Since the Pan American Championships awards the US Olympic Trials’ coveted spot to only gold medal winners, Alan will not be getting the same. Hailing from Cuba, Alan Vera is an immigrant to the USA. Although he does not have much track record, his performance has proved that this will not be true after some time.

Even though he was not able to win gold, he added another silver to the USA’s Pan American medal collection.
