With the first month of the new year half gone, international wrestling tournaments have started to come up. Although every global contest carries major significance, the tournaments this season will carry extra value since 2024 is an Olympic year. Marking its presence in this crucial time, Penn State Wrestling has already bagged an outstanding feat. 

USA Wrestling will soon find itself in France for a major upcoming contest. While several powerful wrestlers stand in the ranks of this three-day contest, Penn State Wrestling has a big contribution in these numbers. In fact, this very well seems like a trial run of a giant claim made by PSU’s Magic Man, David Taylor.

The special place of Penn State Wrestling in upcoming grappling meet

The 2024 iteration of the Henri Deglane Challenge is here and will take place from 19 to 21 January. Participating in the tournament which will be held in Nice, USA Wrestling has sent an experienced and reliable squad. Interestingly, five wrestlers have made their way to the team from the mats of Penn State Wrestling.

Representing Penn State Wrestling, Alex Facundo, Cael Nasdeo Mark Hall, Mark McKnight, and Kerry McCoy have earned their rightful places on the team. Notably, Facundo is a former Olympian. Moreover, he also won the gold medal at the U-20 Pan American Championship in 2022. 

The team also carries several wrestlers who have already qualified for the upcoming Olympic trials. But, many wrestlers will also look to win their bouts to qualify for the trials. This trip to France will also give these grapplers a mini-preview of what things will be like in France. This will also serve as a litmus test for the viability of David Taylor’s 2023 claim.

Expanding his social media presence, 3x World Wrestling Champion David Taylor started a podcast of his own last year. On the podcast, Taylor once said that the US can clinch several Olympic gold medals by simply sending a team of Penn State Wrestling to Paris. This made several waves and also caught the attention of notable wrestlers and analysts.
