For athletes, it’s difficult to find their best squad off the bat. Sometimes, several trials and errors come before a wrestler can settle into their roles and positions. For true freshman Bella Ngo, the Iowa Hawkeyes didn’t feel like the right balance and now, she seeks her home elsewhere to continue her professional and academic journey. Ngo’s year as an Iowa athlete hasn’t been all too shabby, but she thinks her calling lies somewhere other than there.

The 130-pounder has shared her motivation to leave the Hawkeyes recently and fans are still in shock. With the Iowa women’s wrestling team currently on a 16-match winning streak, many thought Ngo would play out her first college year at one of the country’s best programs. However, the athlete had different plans.

Iowa Hawkeyes athlete decides to move away

In her latest Instagram post, Bella shared her intentions to move from Iowa for the remainder of her academic time. From the looks of things, Ngo will be ditching the Hawkeyes for a spot at the Texas Wesleyan Wrestling. “Excited and grateful to continue my athletic and academic journey with @txweswrestling !!!“, announced Bella in her post. Along with that, she also highlighted her delight in finding a new place to call home for her upcoming years with the chant “Let’s go Rams“.

The Fort Worth college competes in the Sooner Athletic Conference and is part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), where they have been a regular participant since the 2013-14 academic year. While many would consider this as a stepping down from her current program, Bella believes the Rams feel like the perfect option place for her.

As part of the Iowa roster, Bella last participated in last year’s Soldier Salute, where she placed second in the 123lb weight class. Ngo boasts an impressive 10-5 overall record as a Hawkeye and bagged third place at the 2022 California State Championships before arriving in Iowa City. However, Bella isn’t the only wrestler whose tryst with the Hawkeyes has been turbulent.

Iowa’s wrestling roster undergoing tectonic shifts

For national sensation wrestler AJ Ferrari, the relationship with the Hawkeyes has been nothing short of dramatic. After recording a bizarre disqualification at last year’s Soldier Salute, Ferrari was poised to take up the black and gold stripes for his collegiate career. However, things have remained in a situation of flux, and Ferrari hinted at an MMA debut as his next career move. The drama did not end here.

After AJ, his brother Anthony also dropped a hint about joining MMA. Anthony is already a Hawkeye athlete. But AJ’s future at the school is yet to be determined. And now, with Bella also opting to move away from Iowa, it remains to be seen if the rest of the roster can buckle up for the remainder of the wrestling season.
