The Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational was packing in game-changing upsets. Out of the most unbelievable and unexpected results came during the semifinal scuffle for the 165 lbs title. Cornell’s Julian Ramirez faced the eye of the storm as Iowa State’s NCAA champion spun out of control on the mat. But what happened next was nothing short of extraordinary. 

David Carr was inducted into the University’s century club at the CKLV on Friday. He has a .971 win percentage and is preceded by only Cael Sanderson and Dan Gable. Notwithstanding the surprising results at the semifinals, Carr received applause from wrestling world champ Jordan Burroughs.

David Carr’s stellar CKLV finish earns praise from Jordan Burroughs

Jordan Burroughs is using his off-season to train harder for the upcoming Olympics. However, whenever the occasion calls for it, the world champion took a break from his training to mentor the young wrestlers at his academy. Burroughs is preparing the next generation of wrestling stars at the All I Can See Is Gold Academy and never misses a chance to celebrate the victories of young wrestlers. He noted a similarity between his own intensity and Carr’s and proudly showcased the young wrestler’s accomplishment. Jordan Burroughs uploaded a banner photo of David Carr on his Instagram story captioned “Congratulations”. The single word followed by the crown emoji denoted Burroughs’ recognition of Carr’s tenacity.

The post celebrated David Carr’s 100th career win. He became the 39th wrestler from Iowa State to clinch his one-hundredth win. Moreover, Carr accomplished the feat on the opening day of the CKLV. Thus, Jordan Burroughs gracefully shifted the focus from his semifinal loss against Julian Ramirez to his triumphant third-place finish. This was not the first instance of the Olympic gold medalist has shown such a tendency.

Jordan Burroughs’ strange habit 

During the CY-Hawk Dual Meet, David Carr clashed against Iowa’s Mikеy Caliеndo. Carr opened up with a doublе-lеg takеdown to take the lead by three points. The finishing move was executed perfectly and it earned the approval from Jordan Burroughs. He praised the move saying, “That was beautiful” to pronounce his estimate of David Carr. These commendations were inspite of the fact that the Cyclones could not clip the wings of their rival Hawkeyes.

Iowa pulled a rather impressive lead over Iowa State during the dual meet. However, from Jordan Burroughs exasperated cheers for the latter’s star wrestler, the narrative took a strange turn. David Carr’s sole triumph seemed to drown out the chatter of Iowa’s dominance.
