Winning the World Championship Gold in Belgrade, Micic recently took to engage in a discussion with the podcast team of Clash of Combat. He delves with the hosts to engage in the question as to who will represent the US team at 57 kgs, a burning question in the wrestling community.

Wrestler Spencer Lee may not be the best catch
In a recent Instagram video shared by the official page of Clash of Combat, the hosts Cayden Henschel and Crosby Schlosser engage in an interesting discussion with the Serbian wrestling champ Stevan Micic. He has exceptional prowess at dominating in the 57kgs category. Indeed, Micic is one of the ideal experts to dwell on the question of who will make it to Team USA in the same category.

When posed with the question whether he will include Spencer Lee in the 57kg weight class, Micic shares, “Spencer is tough, but I don’t know if Spencer is battle-tested enough.” He further elaborates that while Lee’s win at the Senior National Freestyle Title against Nico Megaludis was notable, he is not really sure about the longevity and impact. Stevan Micic adds that Nico Megaludis may not be a full-time wrestler as he’s working a job and –“he’s been out of the picture.” This poses divisive opinions on Spencer Lee’s credibility to make it to Team USA against other strong contenders.

Micic shares insights on the best Team USA contenders
Answering the list of favorable contenders for the 57kg weight class, Micic adds, “That’s a really good question.” He has a few names in mind. The primary name that strikes him is Thomas Gilman. Micic elaborates, “I think Gilman is the most tested,” adding, “Gilman has the best chance of making a dent into any of the worlds of the bracket in my weight class.” Next name is Vito Arujau. Micic adds that, “If Vito can make a descent,” he can be the next probable contender.

There are a few other names, which he enlists. These include Daton Fix and Nick Suriano. According to Micic, “He [Spencer] is not gonna tech fall those guys in the first.” Only if Spencer Lee can withstand them, he may become ideal for Team USA’s 57kg class. However, Mimic adds that there are not enough data points to prove so.
With the Paris Olympics a few months away, Micic has his eyes set on the roads to July, while evaluating his contenders for the same.
