The 2023 Senior Nationals for wrestling are looking like a spectacle in waiting with all the A-listers setting their focus on 2024. With the Paris Olympics around the corner, wrestling stars from across the country are working hard to stay in shape. As the year comes to an end, the Senior Nationals seek to provide wrestlers one chance to secure their spot on the USA national team. With that in mind, the upcoming December event looks all the more dazzling with names like Spencer Lee and Nick Suriano.

Three-time NCAA Division I winner Spencer Lee has been out of the game for months due to a leg injury sustained in April. However, the 2019 Senior National Champion stormed back by winning this year’s Bill Farrell Memorial International. Defeating US Open 2022 winner Penn State’s Nico Megaludis in the finals, Lee now looks to represent Team USA at the Paris Olympics.

Spencer Lee and Nick Suirano will lock horns at the Senior Nationals

While Lee is easily one of the most celebrated wrestling names in the country, another former Penn State Nittany Lion stands in his way to the French Capital. Nick Suriano received a forfeit back in April thanks to Lee’s injury on his way to the silver medal at this year’s US Open. The former Big Ten Champion is now registered in the Senior Nationals as Nick Suriano seems to be eager to be a part of the team that represents the national team at the Paris Olympics.

The news of Suriano partaking in the Senior Nationals was announced on social media showing a stern-faced Nick, indicating at his current state of mind. Suriano was handed his only defeat by Lee as the former claimed silver at the 2018 NCAA Championships. Understandably, there’s no better stage to set the record straight for the 2019 NCAA Champion Suriano.

However, the Senior Nationals will also be the perfect place for Spencer as the Paris Olympics looks to offer Lee a chance to turn his Olympics dreams into a reality. Lee and Suriano will both give their best on the mat at the Nationals which is scheduled during 15-17 December.

Senior Nationals shaping up well

The Iowa Hawkeyes’ Spencer Lee and the Sunkist Club kid Suriano will both be fighting in the 57kg category. But they aren’t the only big names in this year’s US Senior Nationals. Nittany Lion Wrestling Club member Cael Nasdeo and Penn State’s Nico Megaludis will also have their go at representing the nation at the Paris Olympics (57kg).

Another Iowa Women’s Wrestling representative Rose Cassioppi looks to dominate the 76kg division at the Nationals. Cohlton Schultz, another Sunkist prodigy has set his eyes on the top spot in the 130kg category, while Duncan Lee of ISU has plans to represent the USA in the 97kg freestyle.
