The Pan American Championships, commencing at Acapulco, Mexico, has been quite fortunate for Team USA. On the first day of the event, led by the Greco-Roman wrestlers, the team accumulated seven medals across multiple weights. The momentum continued in the second day also as the team nabbed six more medals. Now third day into the event, things are building up nicely for the team.

Keeping up with the run the women wrestlers started on day 2, Michaela Beck secured a silver in the second medal bout of the day in women’s freestyle 59kg. She defeated her Brazilian opponent Ana Pereira Franca.

USA Wrestling took it to their official Twitter account to share the ecstatic announcement among the spectators. They penned ” WFS 59 kg – Round Five – Michaela Beck dec. Ana Pereira Franca , 5-0 #WrestleAcapulco That’s a for Beck in Acapulco!”

After dominating three remarkable opponents, Michaela Beck secured her spot in the final round of the Pan American Championships. Despite being 4th ranking wrestler, Beck took over as the #2 wrestler on the mat. Soon, Beck concluded the showdown by defeating Ana Franca by 5-0 in a spectacular display of wrestling skills. However, the triumph seems to be bittersweet for Michaela Beck as she could not secure an Olympic qualifier berth with the silver medal. Her victory after the staunch display of the US contingent for the two previous days.

Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestlers go hand in hand

The Greco-Roman wrestlers started the tournament in a perfect fashion with two golds, three silvers and three bronzes. Their momentum continued on the second day as they secured two more medals. Riding on these performances, the Greco-Roman squad finished at the top of the medal table with 183 points defeating host Mexico with a margin of 25 points. Women wrestlers also did their job well as well.

Alisha Howk, Helen Maroulis, Kayla Miracle, and Brooklyn Hays claimed four golds. They were backed up well by others. Audrey Jimenez and Alex Glaude clinched two bronzes for the team. Interestingly, Women freestyle wrestlers are just a step away from clinching nine podium finishes, as done by Greco-Romans in the first two days of the event to secure the trophy.
