Since the commencement of the Pan American Championships in Mexico, USA’s wrestling team has been making waves throughout the wrestling world. On its very first outing, USA’s Greco-Roman roster shined on the wrestling mat as not only one but seven wrestlers from the team concluded showdowns across multiple weights with podium finishes.

With the start of Day 2 of the event, Team USA already has a heavy weight of expectations on its shoulders. Starting off with women’s triumphant victory, USA’s Greco-Roman contender at 78kg embarked on the mission to dominate the wrestling arena while eyeing another podium finish.

Despite losing gold, Wachsmuth adds to the medal tally

After the recent showdown, USA Wrestling took it to their Twitter account to announce ecstatic news among spectators and supporters of Noah Wachsmuth about his recent bronze bout win. They penned, “GR 72 kg – Round Three – Calebe Correa Ferreira dec. Noah Wachsmuth , 8-2 #WrestleAcapulco Wachsmuth earns at the Pan-American Championships!

Coming up on the bronze bout wrestling mat, Noah paved his way to the semi-finals after overcoming intense pressure from opponents throughout his way. He knocked off Jose Alejandro Valera Garcia by 6-3 and Alexis Abraham Vargas Ramirez by 11-3 in the first and second rounds. However, he could not overcome the domination led by Calebe Correa Ferreira of Brazil. Consequently, Ferreira pushed Noah to the bronze medal while claiming silver in an 8-2 triumphant win. Meanwhile, there was good news from other parts of the US contingency.

Greco-Roman squad stands atop as a team

In the 97kg bout, Alan Vera Garcia nabbed a silver adding more triumph. Riding on the performances, USA emerged victorious in the team competition. With 183 pts the country sat atop the points table. It humbled the host country who managed to grab the second place with a score of 125 points. This is the sixth consecutive year that the United States has won the team race at the Pan-American Championships. However, there is a pain point.

None of the two Greco-Roman wrestlers could attain an Olympic trials berth since they missed gold. However, there are more contenders on the USA’s team who are yet to perform. Few weight categories of the women and the entire men’s squad have yet to set their foot on the mat. As the event progresses, it seems to be becoming more interesting with wrestlers like Kyle Dake and Kyle Synder. Will the USA’s incredible roster be able to clinch more tickets to US Olympic trials?
