In the world of collegiate wrestling, two teams have always been the top contenders on spectators’ lists. Iowa Hawkeyes and Penn State Wrestling have never disappointed their fans as they always showcase exceptional wrestling moves on the mat. While Iowa Hawkeyes secured 34-6 win over Purdue, Penn State has already concluded the dual meet.

However, this is not the major reason for the Penn State wrestling team being under the spotlight. Instead, the team is making waves for one of their recent matchups where a freshman managed to defeat the opponent team’s All-American player.

Braeden Davis: the new wrestling sensation

On a Friday night, the Penn State wrestling team pulled Braeden Davis during its dual meetup against Michigan State. In the matchup, Braeden Davis locked horns with the opponent Michigan’s All-American player Michael DeAugustino. Michael is a recent transfer from Florida and holds the 17th Position. 

To share the sights of Braeden’s recent performance at the showdown, Flowrestling took it to their Twitter account and penned, “Braeden Davis beats All-American Michael DeAugustino 5-1. Is he a title threat this year?” As the two came up on the wrestling mat, the spectators were on the edge of their seats.

In the second period, DeAugustino started on the bottom while Davis hit a minute of riding time. With 32 seconds remaining, DeAugustino escaped, ensuring a 1-0 lead. However, in the third period, Davis again started from the bottom and escaped at 59 seconds.

Even though DeAugustino got into a few wild positions, Davis sparkled and threw a counter at the end of the match. Finally, both concluded the match, with Braeden winning 5-1. Consequently, Davis added 5 points to Penn State, extending the team’s score to 21, while Michigan stood below with 3 points.

Penn State’s Position at the dual meet

Penn State Wrestling team won its 49th consecutive dual meet despite of missing key players from the lineup. Even though the team features various new faces, Penn State managed to clinch a win over Michigan State while portraying its dominance in the dual meet. Fortunately, the team managed to blast No. 11 Michigan by 27-9 at Crisler Centre.

Now, the team is preparing to take over the Maryland wrestling team on 28th January. The last time both the teams competed in the same arena was in the Big Ten Wrestling Championships, where Penn State not only defeated the team but also finished off the season undefeated with a 44-3 victory.

While Penn State will be defending itself, Maryland is looking for an opportunity to take a redemption of Big Ten Championship 2023 from Penn State. Will Penn State be able to overcome intense competition despite the replacement of national champions?
