When the referee blew the whistle to mark the end of the match, Mesenbrink, unfortunately, missed hearing it and continued to wrestle. In response, Burroughs also continued and pushed his head to the ground. Though Mesenbrink got up and apologized to the US’s greatest wrestler, the audience responded conversely and booed at him.

Right after the match, spectators across the globe started off fervent debates surrounding Mesenbrink and Burroughs’ wrestling showdown. And Starocci also came across the controversial debate. To share his insights about the match, Zavier took it to their official X account and penned, “Starocci asked about Burroughs-Mesenbrink conflict: ‘I get the competitive nature, I just think it was unnecessary…’

While discussing Jordan Burroughs, Carter Starocci remarked, “I get the competitive nature, I just think it was unnecessary.” Carter Starocci vs. Jordan Burroughs is nothing new in the wrestling world. There have been numerous instances where Carter has spoken out against Jordan, but currently, the aggression seems to be at its peak.

A couple of weeks ago, Starocci even expressed his desire to compete against Jordan Burroughs, stating, “I would ‘love’ to compete against Jordan Burroughs to see how tough he is then.” He added, “When the tough guys are around, he’s not very tough… Spit in his face.” However, this frustration isn’t solely due to a recent incident between Mesenbrink and Burroughs.

Why is Carter Starocci challenging Jordan Burroughs?

On April 16th, two days prior to the incident, pre-seeds for the 2024 US Olympic trials were released. Interestingly, Penn State NCAA Champion Carter Starocci was listed at 86kgs instead of his original weight class, 74kgs. Consequently, what could have been Jordan vs. Jason Nolf turned into a potential Jordan vs. Starocci matchup at 74kgs. However, fate had other plans in store for them.

Since Carter Starocci wanted to compete against Jordan, his listing up at 86kg bracket frustrated him. And, it seems like now, he got the opportunity to point out Jordan Burroughs. Even last week, he accompanied Bo Nikal to call out Burroughs’ commentary, He penned, “All good. I’ll end his career in 3 weeks.” while reposting the tweet.

Moving on, Carter will be competing in the 86kgs mini-tournament bracket, followed by a likely matchup against Aaron Brooks, who is currently ranked at the top position in the same bracket. The question remains: Will Jordan Burroughs respond to the humorous comments made by Carter Starrocci? Stay tuned to find out!
