These young stars, from both the Class of 2025 and Class of 2024, are making waves throughout the mat, further validating Penn State’s ascension atop the wrestling world.

This strategic recruitment strengthens the Penn State Nittany Lions’ roster while demonstrating their desire to develop and cultivate future prodigies, firmly positioning themselves as a strong force in college wrestling.

Pennsylvania State University’s wrestling team, which is already respected around collegiate wrestling, has upped their game even more by bringing on board these three impressive wrestlers. With the addition of PJ Duke, Zack Ryder, and Luke Lilledahl, a new era of power awaits Cael Sanderson’s Nittany Lions.

Their passion for continuing a heritage of greatness is evident in this partnership, as well as the support they give up-and-comers. Adding these top recruits bolsters the strength of the Nittany Lions’ roster. Justin Basch, a user, shared a tweet showing MatScouts’s ranking table with Penn State’s trio standing tall amongst the best wrestlers in America and captioning it, “Penn State with 3 of the Top 6 in @MatScouts1’s P4P rankings”.

The Penn State Nittany Lions has assembled an elite staff around him with PJ Duke at the top, Zack Ryder, and Luke Lilledahl alongside. They have transformed into a true wrestling powerhouse through their commitment to excellence and dedication to bringing up the next wave of superstars in the discipline.

Three wrestling prodigies’ journey to the Penn State

Top recruit PJ Duke in the class of 2025 has picked Penn State Nittany Lions as his collegiate destination. It was the choice to join the prestigious program, which came after careful consideration. The wrestler who is a 2022 Fargo, Super 32, and Ironman Champion continues to remind everyone of why he is the best.  He won the Fargo and Super 32 titles at 138 lbs in 2022 but was able to show his prowess by defeating the Super 32 champion at 152, LaDarion Lockett in a Journeymen tournament.

The other two exceptionally talented wrestlers, Zack Ryder and Luke Lilledahl, have also joined Penn State alongside Duke. Zack Ryder, considered New York Wrestling News’s #1 recruit in the 2024 class, is a two-time state champion and a 152 lbs Fargo U-16 freestyle champ in 2021, is added in the 184- pound category at Penn State.

Luke Lilledahl is the No. 2 national recruit at 120-pound in the 2024 class with a Super 32 title to his name. He is also a defending Walsh Jesuit Ironman champion. Despite he’s now competing at 126 lb, Lilledahl has the potential and could go up to 133 or higher, giving even greater flexibility to the Nittany Lion lineup. The addition of these three budding wrestlers committing to Penn State only further enhances Penn State’s aura as one of the top programs in the country.
