Rams Standout Ditches Football for Wrestling to Commit to Penn-State After Shattering County Record Held by Former NFL Star

Collegiate wrestling often takes center stage when it comes to the subject of sporting avenues that are gaining popularity. The major reason for this popularity is the participating athletes who leave no stone unturned to keep up with the expectations of the spectators. In a surprising turn of events at collegiate athletics, Penn State University’s wrestling scene is abuzz with the news of Penns Valley High School’s football sensation. 

The premier football player from Pens Valley has decided to leave the gridiron behind to opt for a career in wrestling. Soon after claiming the title of all-time leading scorer in the annals of football and surpassing the likes of former NFL icons Larry Johnson Jr. and Matt Suhey, the player has decided to not only trade his cleats for wrestling shows but also commit to Nittany Lions for the upcoming season. 

Getting Admitted to Penn State University

Two-sport athlete, Ty Watson, is among the 2024 class of standouts committing to Nittany Lions this year. Following this, Watson took to his X handle to express his elation and penned, “My childhood dream has been fulfilled, and I am so grateful that the Lord has given me this blessing. I’d like to thank my family for getting me to where I am today; because of them, I will be furthering my academic and athletic career at Penn State University!”

Two sport-athlete who ditched football for wrestling committed to Nittany Lions on November 9. As a wrestler, the Pennsylvania native has competed in the 160 and 152 pounds category. In addition to this, he also clinched a high school record of 88-15 in the last season. Eventually, the wrestling sensation emerged victorious twice at regionals and was placed sixth at States over the last two seasons of his career. Even though Watson performed exceptionally well on the wrestling mat, he is a remarkable football player.

Why did he ditch Football for Wrestling

Watson has always been a tremendous sports athlete who likes to opt for various sports throughout high school. He had been an all-time leading scorer after surpassing the records set by Matt Suhey and Larry Johnson. In addition, Watson was also known as the Rams’ all-time rushing yards touchdown leader the Rams’s all-time rushing yards and touchdown leader.

However, he witnessed his football career approaching an end for good when the Penns Valley team lost its District 6 Class 2A Quarterfinal match to opponent Richland. Therefore, he decided to take out his wrestling shoes and commit to Penn State. Watson is overall a proficient athlete who has a staunch calibre to take up multiple sports and perform exceptionally well.
