Especially, this year also witnessed the ascent of young wrestlers onto the world mat after defeating seasoned freestyle wrestlers.

According to recent reports from the United World Wrestling Organisation, rankings have been assigned to wrestlers in each weight category. In these rankings, a Russian Prodigy has not only outshone the 2016 Olympic Gold Medalist but has also clinched the top spot in the 97 kg category.

Russian prodigy toppling the Titans

Akhmed Tazhudinov’s journey in the world championships is nothing short of a spectacle. The 23-year-old Russian Prodigy inspired the world that anything can be achieved with hard work and perseverance. In the recent World Championships 2023, he not only clinched the top spot but also dethroned the Olympic gold medalist Kyle Synder in the 97 kg category. This has formed the basis for his selection in the recent ranking as a top contender in that weight category.

Kyle Snyder is yet another emerging star as he is not only counted among the finest wrestlers of Titan’s but also is the youngest Olympic gold medalist. Although he was considered the world champion way ahead of the events, the expectations of the fans were crushed as he lost the final match. 

On the other hand, Akhmed Tazhudinov first secured gold in the Asian Wrestling Championships 2023 in the 97 Kg category. Later came the victory against Snyder in the World Championships 2023. Based on all these, he has been placed in the top spot in the temporary rankings given by the organisation. In his weight category, Tazhudinov has surpassed Snyder by a large margin of points.

Who Reigns Supreme and Who’s Left Behind?

Wrestlers will be assigned the final rankings of the season after the Pan American games that are scheduled to take place from October 2023 to November 2023. However, these temporary rankings, as mentioned above, feature Akhmed Tahudinov at the top, followed by Kyle Snyder. The third and fourth-ranked wrestlers on the list are Magomedov and Matcharashvili, respectively. In addition, the fifth spot in the ranking is clinched by Turkish Wrestler Ibrahim Ciftci.

These rankings are based on the basis of the points assigned to each wrestler. While Tazhudinov tops the chart with 87520 points, Kyle stood second with 68000 points. The points achieved by the other three in the top five are 67600, 59213, and 46900, whereas the last wrestler, Juhwan SEO, placed in the 20th position and held a record of 17425 points.

Thus, Tazhudinov has to secure his place 1 while Kyle Snyder has to score more to clinch the top pot while keeping up with the expectations of the Titans in the 97 KG. Let us keep ourselves hooked to the Pan-American Games for the final rankings.
