Soon after embarking on the road to dominate the opponents to add more wins to the undefeated streak, Penn State made it impossible for the spectators to clinch their eyes to catch every glimpse of the remarkable showdowns.

Despite the notable absence of Carter Starocci at the showdown, HC Cael Sanderson’s Nittany Lions made historical records. Even though wins across multiple weight classes were quite obvious, one of the key contenders on the team faced a major upset today.

Penn State vs. Rutgers: 133 Pounds 

One of the major attractions at the event was the 133-pound weight class, where Dylan Shawver competed against Aaron Nagao. Recently, Rutgers Wrestling took it to their Twitter account and posted a short glimpse of the showdown. Along with the video, they penned, “A1 bench reaction from the staff!

Coming up with two consecutive losses against Dylan Ragusin and Nic Bouzakis, Penn State’s Aaron Nagao entered the wrestling mat with an aim to break his losing streak. However, tables turned around as Aaron locked horns. Interestingly, Shawver landed with three takedowns against Aaron to conclude today’s showdown with the biggest victory of the early season by 9-6. 

While it was Shawver’s second consecutive win against top 12 ranking wrestlers, Aaron counted another loss to his losing streak in the past five matches. Although Penn State faced a major upset with Aaron’s defeat, it was the only defeat Penn State faced as the team won nine of the ten showdowns at the event. But this is not the only reason to celebrate.

The Nittany Lions rewriting history

As the team made it to emerge victorious at the recent showdown with nine wins, Penn State pulled the victory off by beating Rutgers by 35-3. A couple of days after securing the 200th career win for the head coach Cael Sanderson, the Nittany Lions achieved another remarkable feat. Fortunately, it made history again as the team secured its 1000th victory against opponents.

Nittany Lions is the sixth collegiate wrestling program to achieve the 1000-win milestone. Consequently, the team joined Iowa, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Minnesota, and Oregon State to count 1000th wins. The Scarlet Knights accomplished the feat after the most recent achievers, the Golden Gophers. Now, the team is gearing up for the upcoming showdown against the Nebraska Huskers on Sunday.
