Taking inspiration from the Warrior Games in the USA, the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, founded the prestigious Invictus Games in 2014. Since its inception, there have been several changes in the Games. Notably, the 2023 edition of the event will feature a new game. To do the honors, Prince Harry himself played against one of the Paralympic champions in the sport.

The 2023 Invictus Games are to be held in the City of Düsseldorf, Germany, and the German Armed Forces will take care of the proceedings as the host. Around 500 participants are expected to take part in the event, from across 20 countries. It will be a first for Germany, hosting such a unique international sports festival.

What could be more fun than playing a game of table tennis against the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry? Well, certainly the Paralympians Thomas Schmidberger, Valentin Baus, and Sandra Mikolaschek know the answer to that. Table tennis will be the new entry for the Invictus Games 2023. Perhaps the Duke was making sure it gets enough coverage beforehand.

Talking about Prince Harry’s skills, Thomas Schmidberger said, “I don’t think he plays very often but he’s a sportsman and sportsmen can do everything a little.”

Number of sports in the 2023 Invictus Games

With table tennis added to the list, Para athletes will be competing in ten different sports. These sports include athletics, archery, swimming, sitting volleyball, and much more.

The aim of the 2023 Invictus Games will be to pay tribute to honorary ex-service members. It’s an event celebrating their remarkable contribution to the country.

This event is a small but meaningful gesture to recognize their greatness, thanking him for sacrificial service to their country.
