“Get Themselves F**Ked in Some Way”: Rock Climbing Couple’s Reckless Action on a Vertical Face Invites Wrath of Fans

The art of rock climbing is an arduous and risky task that does not serve as everyone’s cup of tea. It is a life-threatening activity that demands an incredible amount of self-awareness and consciousness at all points in time. With such heavy risks involved, when a man and a woman were seemingly ignoring these risks, while enjoying their time on the side of a rock wall, it naturally called for negative attention.
In a picture, a man and a woman are taking a temporary pause in the middle of their climb. The two of them climbed up the rock before deciding to stop and take the picture. Fans didn’t respond kindly to what they believed is a reckless act.

The Facebook page ‘Best Pictures’ wrote the caption, “A man and a woman sleep on portaledge while rock climbing a vertical face in Gunnison, Colorado”, with three adorable emojis. Alongside this caption, they shared a photo of the man and the woman doing exactly what is described. When fans discovered it, they ripped the two for what they considered a careless attitude. Unlike the chilling video of a 9-year-old climbing for a noble cause, this image actually met with a lot of flak. Almost all of them completely shredded the two for not paying enough heed to the risk and danger involved. A few understood the concept of portaledge that rock climbers often use during their multiple-day climb.

A portaledge is a deployable hanging tent employed for the exact purpose as seen here. A separate cover called the stormfly is used to cover the tent to protect it from bad weather. Its usage started in the 1960s and 70s when multiple rock climbers would try and ascend the El Capitan through a multiple-day route.

Climbers still use it today, albeit a much more technologically advanced version, such as cantilever design, etc. It is not known why the climbers decided to do that but onlookers quickly shared their interpretations and opinions. While fans are not always unkind in their opinions, this time they were particularly enraged.
