“Proud of My Horse”: Texas Rodeo Icon Clinches $40,000 Worth Victory at Prestigious Non Pro Championship

Reined cow horse events are a standalone sport, which, is a highly coveted sport. It is a sport wherein a horse and a cow work in tandem with each other on soil in order to work cattle. Along similar lines, a historic win for a cow horse duo has chronicled them as victors at the regal National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) Snaffle Bit Futurity.

In what seemed to be an unprecedented win for the cow horse duo saw one of the most electrifying performances displayed by the equine partner. Was it a cosmically happy accident that the cow horse duo won it on Fort Worth soil, or can it be chalked up to their great sporting prowess?

RAB Miss Blue Bayou & Lanham Brown completely eviscerated a large group of reined cow horses in order to be crowned NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Non Pro Champions. Miss Blue Bayou and Lanham Brown earned a whopping composite score of 654, a truly impressive feat. Never before seen in rodeo history, brown was skillful in manoeuvering every sinew of the court and thus displayed a great bond forged between rider and horse.

Brown even spoke at great length as to what ensured their success and subsequent winning streak. His cadence spoke for itself – “Down the fence, that mare was always there when I called on her. I trust this horse, so showing was less pressure than I thought it would be”. the synergy between him and his horse seems to be the recipe for that desire to win. Brown further added, “My favorite moment of the futurity was when it was over. I knew I had done everything I could, and I was proud of my horse with how she competed.

It just goes to show how knowing the lay of the land is not enough. HA key factor in achieving victory in rodeo is having a cow horse that is receptive, quick, and disciplined. Each rider, along with their respective cow horse, has to successfully complete a series of three competitive events to progress. Brown remarked that schooling a three-year-old horse was daunting, but the horse put up a great fight.

With a sense of underlying relief at having clinched a handsome sum of $40,000 in prize money and a sense of hope for the reined cow horse future, Brown was pleased. His hard work and the fight in his horse paid off as they circumvented the victory lap at Forth Worth, Texas.

“My family and herd help play a huge part in my success. Matt Koch and Don Murphy have taught me so much I would be crazy not to thank them, and I could name 100 people to be thankful for,” Brown exclaimed with glee and succour. There is more in the pipeline for Brown and his indubitable fighter of a horse.
